Hemp Napkins - Placemats - Table Runners - Tea Towels
Hemp is a bast plant fiber similar in processing and properties to flax and jute. Hemp is very resistant to pests and disease and is generally cultivated without pesticides. It can be made into rope like jute, or napkins, placemats, table runners, and tea towels like linen. Natural cream-colored fibers of the highest quality create an uncommonly soft hemp. The hemp yarn used in Margaret’s pieces is not a poor quality by-product of mature hemp overgrown for seed production for food. It is grown especially for fine fiber, free from coarseness and scratchiness, producing a beautifully soft, lustrous yarn. Margaret’s source for hemp also offers many colors produced by the traditional art of hand-dyeing using only natural dyestuffs. © 2008 Antrim Handweaving – all rights reserved |
