Many pieces offered by Antrim Handweaving are woven exclusively with certified organic cotton.  Sally Fox, cotton revolutionary and owner of Vreseis, Ltd., reintroduced naturally colored cotton to the world in 1989.  FoxFibre® and Colorganic® is her certified organic cotton that has been selectively bred to produce naturally colored cotton grown in hearty, earthy shades of tans, browns, and greens.  Cotton lint, while still attached to the boll, is protectively covered with a natural wax.  FoxFibre® cotton is not treated in any way, and therefore upon initial washings, colors and absorbency will intensify as the wax dissolves.  

The original colored cotton fiber was almost driven to extinction during the two centuries since the industrial revolution by large commercial production of pure white cotton.  Traditionally, breeders have selected white fiber for cotton production despite most cotton species having colored lint.  Colored cotton has always existed in nature.
